My visual-based memoir is presented in a photo essay that shows how Emory shapes me from an "explorer" to an "observer".
When I was working on this project, I have actually made a lot of adjustments. At first, I planed to simply use images to show my life routine in Emory. However, I found it hard to choose the moments that could fully represent a typical day of my life. In addition, I realized that static images were not expressive enough to show my ideas. Thus, I decided to add some video clips to the project, combining them with several photos. This decision made my work much easier because I could present more vivid scenes by using video clips. What's more, when I was editing the photos, I found it sometimes hard to find the effect that best suits the photo and presents the color and tune.
Preparing the project is like a more artistic work but writing the rhetorical analysis paper is somehow like writing a persuasive essay. Luckily, I have been really confident about writing the persuasive essay because we have been trained to write this kind of academic essays for a long time. However, there is a huge difference between writing a persuasive essay and a rhetorical analysis paper. When I was writing the rhetorical analysis paper, I had to describe why I chose this picture, what it meant to my topic, and how it connected to other photos. However, when I was writing the persuasive essay, I was more focused on the thesis and tried to persuade the readers about my argument. Thus, for the rhetorical analysis paper, I added more rhetorical descriptions instead of arguments.
