Aural+ Oral Practices in Our English 101 Class
In-class Discussion
In this course, we are expected to not only practice our writing skills but also improve our spoken English. In this small class, which only has no more than twenty classmates, everyone in this class has sufficient opportunities to practice oral English during class discussion. At most time, we discuss what we read before class and express our personal thoughts. Through this process, I learned how to present my understanding of a specific resource and share my ideas with other people.
Strength & Weakness:
Strength: Confidence- I am confident for discussion all the time but it is not because I am truly good at oral English. Instead, I am confident because I believe that one can only maturely apply a language by practicing a lot. Thus, even sometime I make mistakes in discussion, I still prefer to display my opinions. Weakness: Poor Structure at sometime- Even though I practice a lot, as an international student, I still feel demanding to express my ideas by English. In consequence, I sometimes cannot express my opinion fluently and precisely. |
In-class Presentation
When we mention oral exercises in English class, presentation will never be omitted. Presentation, including aural, visual and electronic communicating modes, always requires the presenter's thoughtful preparation and displays the presenter's comprehensive communicating skills. In this course, we are also asked to do presentation in groups, each contains two students.
What's more, we were required to use Pecha-kucha format for our PPT. This is new to all of us ! Strength & Weakness:
Strength: I love this project because I love doing PPTs and making presentations! When I was still in senior high school, I always took charge of the role of presenter in a group. So I have rich experience on doing presentations. Weakness: Pecha-kucha is somehow difficult for me to control my talking speed. I prepared a lot for what I was going to say for each page during the presentation. However, it seemed like I was reciting all the words. Maybe I should say less for each page and behave more calmly. |
